On March 16, 2024, the community around Clemson, SC came together for a heartwarming event at D.W. Daniel High School. With a mission to provide beds for children in need, the non-profit organization Sleep In Heavenly Peace (SHP) collaborated with the Clemson Area Chamber of Commerce, Clemson Heritage Senior Living, and Boujee Beverages to organize a bed build event. Through the collective efforts of volunteers and generous donations, they aimed to ensure that no child in the community would have to sleep on the floor.
The Clemson Area Chamber of Commerce had raised funds during their previous year's Christmas Silent Auction. Recognizing the importance of giving back to the community, they decided to present the funds to Sleep In Heavenly Peace's Easley chapter on March 1st. This nonprofit has rapidly grown to become an international organization with chapters in the US, Canada, Bermuda, and the Bahamas, all united by their commitment to providing children with a comfortable and safe place to sleep.
The bed build at D.W. Daniel High School attracted over 100 enthusiastic volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to construct beds for children in need. With everyone working together seamlessly, they accomplished an incredible feat - building 28 beds in less than 3 hours. The atmosphere was electric, filled with a sense of purpose and compassion as each volunteer, young and old, recognized the impact they were making in the lives of these deserving children.
Sleep In Heavenly Peace is not content with just one successful event. Aiming to make a lasting difference in the Clemson and Anderson area, they have plans to establish a new chapter. With several builds already in the works for the coming months, the organization is actively seeking like-minded individuals to join their cause and help spread the mission of providing every child with a bed to sleep in.
Leading the Easley chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace is Phil Sargent, a dedicated individual whose passion for helping children in need is truly inspiring. Phil can be reached via email at phil.sargent@shbeds.org or by phone at (859)468-8408. His commitment and dedication have been instrumental in the success of Sleep In Heavenly Peace's efforts in the Upstate area.
