Boat Registration

 

All motorized boats and watercraft (except exempted vessels), including all outboard motors five (5) horsepower and greater, are required by the State of South Carolina to be titled. This includes all sailboats.

Homestead Exemption

 

The Homestead Exemption Law provides property tax relief for South Carolinians age sixty-five, the blind, or disabled. You may apply for this exemption at the County Auditor’s office. You will need to provide proof of eligibility. If you are applying due to age, bring your birth certificate, Medicare or Medicaid Card, or driver’s license. If you are applying because of disability or blindness, bring certification from a State or Federal agency that has the proper authority to make this certification.

Applicants for all South Carolina hunting and fishing privileges must present a state issued identification document ( or passport, if from another country) at the time of application. The same information is required for internet/call center transaction. The same identification used to obtain your privileges should be in your possession when hunting or fishing. Auto Title & Registration

 

You have 45 days to transfer your out of state vehicle title and registration to South Carolina. You may apply for S.C. Title and Registration by mail using Form 400 found online.

 

You must have the following to register your vehicle or transfer your out of state vehicle title and registration:

 

  • Out of State Vehicle Title and Registration

  • Liability Insurance Information

  • Completed Form 400 Application for Certificate of Title/Registration Paid

  • Vehicle Property Tax Receipt

  • Drivers License

 

New S.C. residents may use a valid driver’s license issued by the state from which you moved for 90 days, after which time you must surrender it and obtain a S.C. Driver’s License. Military Personnel (and their dependents) are not required to obtain a S.C. Driver’s License, however you must have a valid driver’s license from your home state.

 

Voter Registration

 

In order to vote, South Carolina law requires that one must first register to vote in your county of residence at least 30 days prior to the election. To be eligible to register in South Carolina you must:

 

  • Be a U.S. citizen

  • Be at least 18 years old on or before the next election

  • Be a resident of S.C. (no length of residency requirement in S.C.), this country, or precinct

  • Not be under a court order declaring you mentally incompetent

  • Not be confined in any public prison resulting from a conviction of crime

  • Have never been convicted of a felony or offense against the election laws; or, if previously convicted, have served the entire sentence, including probation or parole, or have received a pardon for the conviction
